Varanasi – An abode of Celebration & Cremation

Updated: Sep 3, 2020

Isn’t it great to see a bitter truth right in front of your eyes and realise how unpredictable life can be?

Varanasi has a special place in my heart. I have visited here twice and almost every time it amazes me with its own beautiful story. In the year 2019, my visit was during Dev Deepawali to experience and explore how this city celebrates the festival. And let me tell you something, I was stunned with almost everything that was happening around.

While clicking pictures and hopping from one ghat to another, I saw a group of people dancing and celebrating life to the fullest and connected to that, deceased bodies were being cremated. Standing at the staircase I see two igniting light – the diya representing life and the cremation fire after death.

“It is so true that where one mankind is celebrating life another is departing from life.”

Looking at the Celebration and Cremation together was shocking as well as a remembrance of this bitter truth of our life.

A picture and a moment that will always stay close to my heart.
